M I S / Minimal Access Surgery
What is Minimally Invasive
Surgery(MIS)?
It is a method by which surgery is done with help of a small endoscopic camera
and some thin, rigid instruments that are passed into the body through natural
openings or small artificial incisions. These incisions are less then half
an inch in diameter (hence called 'keyhole surgery') and are creating by splitting
muscles in contrast to the large muscled-cutting incisions used in conventional
surgery. Thus, with the help of a camera, the "diseased" organs
can be visualized and treated with minimal trauma to the surrounding tissues.
Advantages over conventional Sugergy:-
- Quicker & accurate diagnosis
- Faster recovery, shorter hospital stay
- Minimal Tissue damage, hence less pain
- Minimal Post-operative infections
- Precise surgical technique can be performed
- Minimal scarring
- Less chances of Hernia at incision site
- No residual weakness
- Same day mobilisation

Apart from its curative function, MIS is alos used for diagnostic purposes
like obtaining tissue biopsy, visualisation of tissue damages, etc.
